A polyphenol, a chemical substance found in plants and contained in grape seeds is resveratrol which may complicate the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.

The skin and seed of grapes in general have high antioxidant content, but muscadine grapes in particular have exhibited a greater proportion of antioxidants than other varieties.
